”The Nian Monster” by Andrea Wang, illus Alina Chau = ☕️☕️☕️3.5 #KristiCocoas
This beautiful book may have some unfamiliar names, but presents a story your child will understand and introduce some of the Chinese culture and celebrations surrounding the new lunar year! It is also a good example of the intelligence and resourcefulness of children! #kidlit #PB #LunarNewYear *Bonus! Yours truly has been to China and to Yu Garden that’s mentioned in the book! Absolutely beautiful!

”A Hungry Lion or A Dwindling Assortment of Animals” -Lucy Ruth Cummins
☕️☕️☕️☕️4 Kristi Cocoas. As the narrator tries to tell a story, the Hungry Lion keeps getting in the way... or does he?! A humorous book with an unexpected ending, it is delightful. Especially for your shorties who like to point to the pictures while you read. #kidlit #PB #KristiCocoas ”Mixed: a Colorful Story” -Arree Chung
☕️☕️☕️☕️4.5 Kristi Cocoas Did your child just see someone in a wheel chair? Someone wearing different clothing? Someone with different shaped eyes or different color skin? Are they learning about different religions or arguing with a friend who thinks differently? This book is WONDERFUL at introducing the idea that differences are what make life colorful! #kidlit #PB #KristiCocoas A memory came up of a poem I wrote long ago, and I thought I would share it today! Pretty sure I'm sitting on a gold mine: My Morning at the Rec Center
‘Twas Saturday morning and all through the courts were racquets, balls bouncing, and men in short shorts. I looked for my family and found them in eight. I decided to stretch, as I sat there to wait. Then what to my wondering eyes should I see, but the back of my lids at about 9:23. I had stretched to the point where I stayed very still, and my eyes started to close against my own will. So I pulled on my coat and laid down my head. Some sweatshirts I used for my makeshift bed. I lay there and slept to a lullaby of sorts; sounds of racquets, balls bouncing, and men in short shorts. #WorldReadAloudDay!! While Seuss always feels nice in my mouth and Sandra Boyton books have a good sing-song quality to them, “The Book With No Pictures” by B.J. Novak is my absolute fav read-aloud!
☕️☕️☕️☕️4.5 #KristiCocoas! It is so fun for the parent-child bonding and my shorties are always asking for this book over and over again. What are your favorites to read aloud? Here is a small collection of some beautiful #PB illustrations. If you've looked at my ☕️Kristi's Cocoas page, then you know I love a good illustration. Can you guess the book? Answers at the end! #kidlitart
