📚PAINTING PEPETTE -Linda Ravin Lodding, Illust Claire Flectcher
☕️☕️ 2.0 #KristiCocoas The artist in me appreciated this book. I'm not sure the littlest shorties could sit through it, as it is a bit wordy, but it's such a fun idea. And you might even recognize a few famous artists from history! It was a mouthfull at first, but the consonance became fun in my mouth. #kidlit #recommended ACTIVITY IDEAS: Try looking up some works of these artists as you read! Compare the bunny version to their quintessential works! Have all the shorties try drawing the same object (turkey, pumpkin, stuffed animal, flower, etc.) and talk about how they don't have to be the same and they can still be good!

📚 OUTSIDE IN -Deborah Underwood, Illust Cindy Derby
☕️☕️☕️ 3.5 #KristiCocoas All I wanted when I was a kid was to go outside. I loved exploring. This book reminded me how out of touch I have become with nature and made me grateful for the instances when I do remember. Beautiful illustrations! ❤️ #kidlit #readingrecommendations Activity: GO OUTSIDE! Leave the phone at home. I know it's tempting to say "I just wanna take photos of my kids!" but just don't. Go outside and find colors and shapes and smells and sounds and textures. And when you get back inside, have your littles draw a picture of their favorite thing they experienced and have them hang it up in their room to keep a little bit of that outside in. 📚 WHAT COLOR IS NIGHT? -Grant Snider
☕️☕️☕️☕️ 4.0 #KristiCocoas You may know by now, but I love color. Naturally I loved this book. Simple and sweet and an excellent bedtime read! #kidlit #readingrecommendations 👀 Mini Activity: Without moving from where you read the book, see what colors you and shortie can identify. Can you see the entire rainbow? Maybe even play a little I-Spy game using colors as your main descriptor! 📚 THERE'S AN ALIEN IN YOUR BOOK -Tom Fletcher, Illust Greg Abbott
☕️☕️☕️☕️ 4.0 #KristiCocoas These interactive books are always fun and this one is no exception. It's nice that there's a little moral to the story as well. #kidlit #readingrecommendations 📚 + 🎨 LOVE BY SOPHIA -Jim Averbeck, Illust Yasmeen Ismail
☕️☕️☕️ 3.5 #KristiCocoas 📚 First, love that the teacher's name is Ms. Paradigm. Second, love the end notes and the way that information is incorporated into the story -it's fun for the adult reader as well as the shorties. Third, a fabulous art lesson and interpersonal relationship lesson on perspective. 🎨 ACTIVITY: collect a few familiar objects from around the house (pencil, mug, book, chair, etc) and draw them from one perspective and then change the object to draw from another. You might even make a guessing game and see if other family members can identify which two pictures are the same object! An easier version for your shorters is to take a photo on your phone of two different angles. You can also make this a guessing game with an unfamiliar perspective first with guesses as to what it is followed up with the photo of a more familiar perspective! #kidlit #recommendedreading 📚 CAN YOU CUDDLE LIKE A KOALA? -John Butler
☕️☕️☕️☕️ 4.0 #KristiCocoas I call this a verb book -it is short with beautiful paintings of cute animals and prompt some fun action from you -or more likely from your littles! A great get-up-and-move book! #kidlit #recommendedreading This book is a built-in activity! Get up and do the actions in the story! Create your own actions with animals too! |
