📚PICTURE DAY PERFECTION -Deborah Diesen, illust Dan Santat ☕️☕️☕️ 3.5 #KristiCocoas School picture day told through the eyes of a rather messy little boy. The children will enjoy it while it may stress out a few moms out there. 📱Activities: My kids LOVE photos of themselves. I’m sure yours do too! Make an intentional effort to play with them. Ideas: 🔲Take slo-mo videos of them jumping off the couch or twirling or trampoline flips and watch them together. 🔲Pick a random emotion and take pics and see which pic is the best! Easy printable list on this website: https://www.therapistaid.com/therapy-worksheet/list-of-emotions Not to mention this is an excellent activity to have discussions about emotional health! 🔲Using a photo layout app, take photos that look like they’re interacting when out together in the different formats -think Brady Bunch here. 🔲Recreate favorite moments from movies and take a pic. This is fun to do as a guessing game with 2 teams or two remote families -you send the pics and guesses back and forth! #kidlit #recommendedreading

📚+🥔 JAMIE O’ROURKE AND THE BIG POTATO -AN IRISH FOLKTALE -Tomie dePaola
☕️☕️☕️☕️4.0 #KristiCocoas 📚This is one from my youth that I still remember thinking “but he never learned his lesson!” and I still think that but almost love the story more for that! Lots of good character analysis even for your shorties to do in this one! 🥔Activity Ideas: •Online Read-aloud version to listen to during your St. Patrick’s party or while doing one of the activities below! https://youtu.be/g4eJxJ5v3rk •How long could you survive on potato? Look up how many different dishes can be made with potato and try making a new one! •If you caught a leprechaun, what would you want with your pot of gold? Make a large batch of some mashed potatoes (bonus: dye them green for fun!) and sculpt what you’d spend your gold on! •Leprechaun traps! Look online for ideas! *Yours truly was able to visit Dublin and, as a self proclaimed author, I have to brag that I saw the Book of Kells at Trinity College! #kidlit #recommendedreading #PB Happy Read Across America Day in honor of Dr. Seuss!
Did you know that Theodor “Ted” Seuss Geisel had a vanity plate that said "GRINCH"? I think that is one of the most wonderful things in the world. Dr. Seuss is one of the most prolific and recognizable children's picture book authors. And boy does he deserve it! He broke the rules and created worlds and inspired all walks of life. What better way to celebrate the day than to read with your little today! Find your favorite Dr. Seuss book and pull it out for your kiddos. Bonus activity! Give me your best Seussesque ending for the prompt pictured above! #readacrossamericaday #seuss #challenge 📚Review+✍️Activity! "Things That Are Most in the World" -Judi Barrett, illus John Nickle.
☕️☕️☕️☕️4.5 #KristiCocoas The most imaginative picture book in the world is this book being read in different accents while in a play fort under the kitchen table. It is silly and cute and fun all rolled into one idea. Each page explores "the most" of one particular descriptive word and it is such a fun idea. The book itself includes a great prompt at the end to encourage your own little imaginer. I've attached my own version of the prompt below along with another page to spark your thinking. You can cut out and randomly draw an adjective or just pick your own! You can print the images below, or click here for a PDF version
Here is a small collection of some beautiful #PB illustrations. If you've looked at my ☕️Kristi's Cocoas page, then you know I love a good illustration. Can you guess the book? Answers at the end! #kidlitart
